The promise
During campaign events in June 2025, Trump suggested extending his border-wall idea northward, saying “we have serious problems coming from Canada.” He claimed Chinese agents and smugglers cross through remote forests and vowed to study a northern barrier. Homeland-security officials immediately dismissed the idea as unnecessary and impractical, citing 5 000 miles of friendly frontier. No study or funding followed; the comment became a running joke online.
