“We will cut federal spending by $2 trillion.”
The promise
One promise was bold: reduce federal spending by $2 trillion, shrinking government and projects. The pitch claimed waste, bloated bureaucracy, and misaligned priorities would allow large cuts. However, in practice, budget proposals still show large deficits. Many spending items resisted cuts due to political pressure, contractual obligations, or mandatory programs. The actual cuts have been modest or symbolic rather than magnitude promised. Thus this promise has gone largely unmet.
