The promise
Trump said technology companies building data centers must bear their electricity costs rather than pass them to American households. He said his administration was working with major companies and identified Microsoft as the first example. Microsoft announced its own community-infrastructure commitments the next day, including protection against residential electricity-cost increases. The supporting argument was that large new industrial consumers should fund the power and grid capacity they require. The practical concern was that protecting bills everywhere depends on utility rates, infrastructure investment, and enforceable arrangements rather than a general assurance. Trump's statement promised further announcements without setting a nationwide numerical limit on electricity prices.
