The promise
During a November 18, 2025 meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Trump said Americans would see $2 gasoline. He linked lower fuel costs to his energy policy, Saudi relations, and broader claims about falling prices. The statement was direct enough to track as a promise because it gave a clear expected price level. It also continued a recurring Trump theme that his administration would bring down energy prices. However, the claim was highly optimistic even at the time because gasoline prices depend on crude oil markets, refinery capacity, geopolitics, taxes, and seasonal demand. By June 2026, U.S. gasoline prices were not near $2 nationally. Reporting and price trackers showed national averages around $4 per gallon, with prices significantly higher than a year earlier. That makes the statement clearly unfulfilled as of the current review. Since the promise was specific and the real-world result moved in the opposite direction, it should be marked broken.
