The promise
During the 2024 campaign and early vice-presidency, JD Vance promised to increase deportations and impose tougher immigration enforcement under the Trump-Vance administration. He claimed that prior administrations were too lenient and that decisive action was needed to protect the border. The plan includes using federal funding to expand detention facilities, accelerate asylum case reviews, and strengthen cooperation with state authorities. Civil rights groups criticized this as inhumane, while supporters hailed it as restoring “law and order.” Implementation has begun in limited form through DHS memoranda.
