The promise
Trump vowed sweeping election reforms to restore “trust and transparency.” His proposal includes mandatory voter identification, proof of citizenship for registration, elimination of mail-in ballots except for military and disabled voters, and same-day counting of results. He argues that these measures will end alleged fraud and restore confidence in democracy. State-level legislation is being encouraged through the America First Policy Institute, while federal review focuses on voter verification standards. Opponents call it restrictive, warning of voter suppression risks. As of late 2025, several Republican-led states have adopted similar frameworks but no nationwide mandate yet.
