Promise Details
DeSantis pledged to protect air quality, reduce pollution, and engage in environmental regulation consistent with Florida’s growth. He often highlights state’s success in environmental metrics. State policies in Florida show improvements; however pressures from development and population growth remain. DeSant-O-Meter tracks this promise as “Compromise.”
Why it is broken
Environmental programs and Everglades investments advanced under DeSantis, but data show mixed results: while Florida became the largest state to meet all EPA air standards in 2020 and record clean air in 2021 (PolitiFact), enforcement declined and environmental watchdogs report downward trends (PEER). Florida DEP monitoring shows continuing particulate and ozone issues in growth regions. Independent trackers rate promise “Compromise” with elements broken or stalled.
